Doors
after Christian Marclay
by Patrick Hammer, Jr.
So many days, years,
decades of doors I have
entered. The first
in this life via my mother.
I crossed over, a tabula
rasa. So many doors, so
many faces, places so far.
Some doors plain, some
ornate. I have opened some
as one person, walked
over the threshold, only
to exit a different person.
Some doors I have found
locked; never allowed
to enter. Some I have left
behind, not wanting to,
never crossing again. Some
I have returned to, over
and over. Some have led
to other doors and more.
One will lead someday to
some untimely but numinous
last portal that I will throw
open.

Love how the poem grows and expands to that gorgeous end!
